Monasteries

In the Taygetos mountains, many monasteries can be found, some of which are located near the guesthouse. These monasteries are often open to visitors, and if not, the surroundings and the journey are certainly worth it.

Sermbitsa monastery

The Sermbitsa Monastery, built on the remains of an 11th-century monastery, is a welcoming and flower-filled nunnery with a beautiful old church and antique frescoes. It is located on the slopes of the Taygetos mountains and is accessible on foot in about an hour or by car in 10 minutes.

Gola monastery

In the 400-year-old Gola Monastery, Priest Ilias provides a tour full of information. The ancient frescoes are magnificent. The monastery is located at an altitude of 1,000 meters near the village of Gorani. From the mountain village of Koumoutsa, you can walk there along a well-marked monopathi in about an hour.

Agioi Tessarakonta monastery

The Agioi Tessarakonta (Forty Martyrs) Monastery is one of the most important monasteries of Lakonia. It was built in 1305 and has a tumultuous history. The museum houses religious objects, and there is a guesthouse where you can stay overnight. The monastery is located near Sparta in a beautiful environment.
